I reside in Tewksbury, MA. At age 51, I'm 6' tall, 240+ lbs. I'm employed as a Courseware Developer for a software company. I'm an avid college hockey fan. I also enjoy watching the Red Sox. I like to attend classic rock/blues concerts. Over the past 10 or more years I've made it a point to see some of the classic rock/blues artists that I didn't get a chance to see when I was younger. I also enjoy the Cape (primarily in the off-season). The Cape allows my wife and I to get away for a few days and have some fun. There we can ride bikes, kayak, swim and enjoy some of the best seafood Massachusetts has to offer. This summer I hope to learn how to clam out in the Brewster mud flats. That should be interesting...

After college I started putting on weight and decided it was time to change my life. I had lost a lot of weight for my wedding which was only six months away. My fiance and went to bed, like any other night but this night I was woken up by my fiance telling me to call 911. He was only 28 years old and later that evening/morning I was informed he was having a heart attack. When he got out of the hospital we went through our pantry and cleaned out any unhealthy food, but my concern was taking care of my fiance. Our wedding came, and my dress was amazing and fit like a glove, but I started putting on weight after that point due to helping my husband get into shape and putting myself second. He lost over a hundred pounds in a year, and is now a triathelete. After our wedding we bought a house which was a longer commute for work which meant longer hours, and less time for working out and eating healthy. I thought I was just tired all the time from the commute, but my husband begged me to go for a check-up, which I did. The next day the doctor's office called and wanted me to see a specialist for my thyroid, I thought nothing of it and went. After a bunch of tests and a biopsy that ninety-eight percent of the time is cancer free, I was informed that I was one of those two percent cases. My husband and I then went to a bunch of second opinions. My only option was surgery to remove my whole thyroid and any cancerous tumors in my neck. My surgeon was amazing and was able to remove the thyroid without any complications and 66 cancerous lymph nodes in my neck. After the surgery I went into treatments to kill the remaining thyroid cancer left in my body. I went through this awful diet for the treatment which consisted of no dairy, salt, seafood, and only organic meat and chicken for a month. During this time you are taken off your medication and on this diet. You would think during this diet you would loose weight but you actually gain weight a lot easier and faster due to not being on my thyroid medication. After the treatments you are able to start eating regular food again, but your taste buds are trashed. The only thing I could eat for about three months was sour patch kids, and all your muscles ache all of the time from not being on the medication. It has been almost a year since my surgery and I feel worlds better. I know this is something I will always live with, but I won't let it win me. I am looking forward to the training to get back into better shape and loose the remaining weight I gained.
