Habitat for Humanity-My daughter; saving the world.

Posted 9/2/2010 5:24:00 PM
As many of you know, my daughter Elise has worked for Habitat for Humanity/EKC for the last 5 years. Soon, my family will be joining her to participate in Habitat's biggest fund-raiser of the year; their annual Build-a-thon.

This event is bittersweet for me, as it also marks Elise's last big hooray with Habitat, because she will soon be leaving to embark on her own personal journey to try to do good somewhere else in the world. (Most likely starting in Thailand and ending in Antarctica. Maybe you’ve seen my new movie `Eat-Pray-Love-Pray for Her Safe Return’?) I would really appreciate your support to raise money for the Build-a-thon. It’s also my family’s effort to thank Elise for the good she’s done here in the U.S.

Sue's Orange Ricotta Cream with Fresh Berries

2-1/2 cups ricotta (whole milk or part skim-milk)

2/3 jar of orange marmalade (approx. 9 oz.)

4 oz. Bittersweet chocolate (shaved or finely diced)

2 Tablespoons Orange Juice-with pulp. (or Grand Marnier)

1 teaspoon almond extract

2 TBL honey

Raw sugar (use as desired)

Egg whites

Fresh berries of your choice (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries etc.)

6 large peaches, halved.

Place the ricotta cheese in mixer bowl (or food processor) and mix at med-high speed until the ricotta is smooth. Add the orange marmalade, almond extract, honey and orange juice. Continue to mix for 2-3 minutes. I like to retain some pieces of the marmalade to give the dessert some texture.

Refrigerate for at least one hour, or up to 2 days.

Place one half of peach on dessert size plate. Brush egg white over cut side of fruit, then dip peach into raw ...

Dublin Lawyer
It’s quick and delicious, lobster cooked in whiskey and cream. Nobody quite knows how it got its name, because while it’s rich, expensive, decadent and full of booze, whatever could the connection with a Dublin lawyer be?

1 fresh lobster (Approx. 2 pounds of steamed lobster)
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup Irish whiskey (Sue uses Brandy because it's sweeter!)
1/2 cup double cream (Sue uses Fat Free Half-n-Half)

Anything else is optional really. A twist of fresh juice from a lemon perhaps. A teaspoon of dried mustard. Some salt and pepper of course. Some chopped chives to garnish.

Steam the lobster. Remove all the flesh - a metal skewer is really good for this - and cut into medium size chunks.

If you wish, keep both halves of the main body shell for serving.  Put the butter in a large frying pan over a medium heat until it ...

Bathroom Wars

Posted 5/20/2010 4:28:00 PM
At least once a month…usually more, we get an “All Employees” email from the top office, reminding the so-called ladies who work here to flush the toilets. Ok, it’s a little more complicated than that, but not much.

Men often get labeled as being the sloppier of the two sexes. But when it comes to bathroom etiquette, that apparently isn’t the case. At least, not if our building is any indication of the national trend. The ladies room is always a mess! Not just a mess. A disgusting mess! This, even though someone made nice little signs for EVERY STALL reminding the “ladies” to be considerate and clean up after ourselves if we “Sprinkle When We Tinkle”.

The plumbing in our building is apparently old and does not always do the job the first time around. But COME ON ladies! You know the toilets here don’t flush well. You’ve seen ...

OK! OK! I admit it!

Be watching for next month's issue of "Glamour" magazine. It includes an article about breakups. And according to this article,

--88% of women admit they've Googled an ex to see what he's up to

--46% have even "friended" an ex on Facebook.

--54% admit they've had sexual fantasies about an ex.

--15% admit they've accidentally called a new boyfriend by an ex's name.

--Overall, 32% of women say they're still IN LOVE with an ex-boyfriend.

Yes, I've Googled, Bing'ed and/or searched Facebook for an ex.  There, I've come clean!  I think this is more a "woman thing" than a "man thing".  In some cases, I think men are able to move on a bit easier after a breakup.  But it's so surprising to me how many women say they've never checked up on the whereabouts of an old flame.  I'm sure some of these women are being honest...but I ...
