How I Started My Summer Vacation

I just wanted to let you know: my nails are organized. So are my screws. And all my Duck Tape, organized. Sandpaper and paint rollers, all together in their proper places. My friends asked me to meet 'em up at Hampton Beach this weekend but I opted to purge and consolidate. I figured there will be more warm summer weekends but when will I ever again have the ambition to tackle all the junk I've accumulated over the years? So, I sucked it up and sorted through thousands of nails, tacks, screws, nuts, bolts, washers and everything else I've dropped into those catch all drawers. And I had the most interesting realization as I was out on my deck with my giant magnet and drawer full of metal: "all of this is mine. I own all of this hardware!!". I never really look at my stuff and think "wow…this is mine". I usually just think "where the hell is a straight nail with a flat head!!". Now, you may be thinking life is short and relationships are important and why would anyone choose to spend a long weekend, a beautiful, sunny long weekend, going through junk drawers instead of hanging with friends. I thought that too. The only answer I could come up with, other than it feels really good to be more organized, is that it gave me the illusion of control over my environment. I may not be able to control much else but damn it, I'll be able to find a straight nail with a flat head the next time I'm looking for one. Now, which plastic bin is my hammer in?
