I received a call the other day from a woman who said her upper kitchen cabinets were pulling away from the wall! She said, “They must not have screwed them into the studs…those dopes.” When I got there, the tops of the cabinets were an inch away from the wall. However, the installers correctly secured the cabinets to the studs. The problem was with the cabinets themselves.
Here I was, standing in a high-end home in a beautiful neighborhood, and the cabinets are made of particle board! Somebody was looking to cut costs when they were building the place, and they found a spot in the cabinetry. Over the years, the backsides of the particle board cabinets have sagged and stretched from holding up all the weight of dishes, glasses, etc. A couple of cabinets looked as if they would give way soon!
