John Mellencamp apparently wants to be the only one telling a little ditty about “Jack & Diane”.
In response to the upcoming film of the same name, Mellencamp has released an official statement regarding how he feels about the movie’s title, which pays homage to his 1980s hit song.
The former Cougar issued a press release, writing, “It’s most apparent that the lead characters were named with the hope that the familiar title might resonate in some people’s minds. I guess that’s OK to do, strictly from a legal perspective, but riding on someone else’s coattails and having a moral compass is left up to each individual.”
Mellencamp also made sure to point out that his song does not appear anywhere in the film, nor was he asked to contribute anything to the movie.
Jack & Diane stars Juno Temple, Riley Kenough and Kylie Minogue, and is set for release on November 2nd.
