Paul McCartney's health issues in Japan may have been more serious than indicated.
The former Beatle's camp cited a virus as the reason for his hospitalization and the cancellation of four shows in Japan and one of South Korea. Now the Japanese magazine Nikkan Gendai reports that McCartney underwent intestinal surgery for ileus, an intestinal obstruction. No other details were offered, and McCartney's camp has not commented on the matter, nor has it commented on whether the shows will be rescheduled.
McCartney is slated to begin a North American leg of his Out There Tour on June 14 in Lubbock, Texas.
