Sammy Hagar is unplugging for a new album he plans to release later this summer.
In a new video on www.redrocker.com, Hagar tells fans that he'll release "Light Roast," a collection of acoustic versions of his songs in the near future via the web site. Hagar says the project was inspired by acoustic shows he recently did at his Cabo Wabo Cantinas in Lake Tahoe and Mexico, and his four-song set at the recent Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit in San Francisco.
"Preparing for that thing was so much fun Vic (Johnson, his guitarist) and I just got together...(and) started recording and doing a record...Him singing background with me, no overdubs, some ones (with) one guitar, sometimes two, some ones with two voice, sometimes one..."
Hagar did not reveal an exact release date or a track list for the album but said it would not be released through a label. Hagar did say an acoustic set will be part of the summer tour he's doing with Johnson, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham, a show he promises will be "just kind of a weird journey through rock 'n' roll we grew up on and we were part of playing."
The quartet plays 10 shows starting July 17 at Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin. Hagar is also featured on a track for the upcoming Ted Nugent album "ShutUp&Jam!," which comes out July 8.
