Jeff Beck recently collaborated with Brian Wilson on the former Beach Boy’s new album, and it left him with mixed feelings on the project as a whole, which also included a tour to promote the album even though it has yet to be released.
In an interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Beck recalled the recording sessions saying, "For four days I sat there and didn't even know Brian was in the room. He was so quiet; he never uttered a syllable. And yet they gave me these parts that allegedly he'd written.”
Beck continued with, “He doesn't speak. He's clearly in need of attention – but that's just my opinion.”
The tour was no better, which Beck says he worked endless promotional events with very little rest, but he pressed on because he’d “fallen in love with the idea of playing with Brian Wilson.”
Other musicians, besides Beck, would’ve jumped at the chance to work with Wilson on anything, but had he have known the circumstances of the album and tour, it sounds like he would’ve thought twice before committing.
As for the new Brian Wilson album, a release date has yet to be determined.
