We’d like to wish a Happy Birthday to Emerson, Lake and Palmer drummer, Carl Palmer.
Born in Birmingham, England in 1950, Palmer was given the gift of music in his blood.
The drummer has quite the musical background in his family history: Palmer’s grandfather played the drums; his grandmother was a symphony violinist; his father sang and his mother played a variety of musical instruments. Talk about a family tree!
Carl Palmer joined his first professional band at the young age of 14, a short-lived group called The Mecca Dance Band. He has since gone on to play in bands such as The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Atomic Rooster, the infamous ELP, ASIA and The Carl Palmer Band – quite a resume!
Palmer came back together with the members of ELP to do a one-time reunion show in July 2010. The event took place in London before a crowd of 30,000!
In an interview with AlienEarMusic.com, Palmer spoke about his desire to never stop getting better. “I am at a stage where, I am still improving,” he said. “There are still many challenges still left for me personally to do and play.”

We raise our glass to toast you today, Carl. Cheers!
