Shocking and tragic news just breaking as fashion designer L’Wren Scott, longtime girlfriend of The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger, was found dead in her Manhattan apartment of an apparent suicide, per The New York Post. She was 47.
In a statement from Jagger spokesperson Fran Curtis to USA Today, Jagger is "completely shocked and devastated by the news."
Scott had a long list of celebrity clients and fans, including Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Christina Hendricks, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Obama. Scott founded her fashion line in 2006.
She and Jagger had been together for 12 years.
[UPDATE: 3/18/14-12:10 pm]: Mick Jagger has issued a statement on the landing page of his official website:
"I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.
We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.
She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.
I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.
I will never forget her."
[UPDATE: 3/18/14-10:53 am ]: A spokesperson for Jagger issued the following:
"The story in the New York Post re a split between Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott is 100 % untrue. There is absolutely no basis in fact to this story. It is a horrible and inaccurate piece of gossip during this very tragic time for Mick."
