March 1st marks an important date for one of rock’s greatest bands, Aerosmith. Get Your Wings, one of their earliest efforts, celebrates its 40th anniversary today!
With a heavy, riff-oriented sound, the band has paved the way for hard rock and metal artists for decades, and Get Your Wings is where the band truly began to define itself.
Get Your Wings, the group’s second studio album, is not celebrated quite as often as some of Aerosmith’s other albums. But that doesn’t take anything away from the LP’s significance, as the band sowed the seeds for their next two massively successful albums, Toys In The Attic and Rocks.
The album is also where the band teamed up with Jack Douglas, the producer for their next few massive albums. Douglas was a major part of Aerosmith’s future success, working with the band to bring their edgy, hard rock sound to life in a way the debut album had not.
The group also began to gain confidence in their style and their songwriting skills. The bandmates showcased it’s talent by not just going fast and playing hard throughout the whole album, but also throwing in some slower ballads, like “Seasons of Wither.”
While the album didn’t have any out-of-the-box hits, it did stay on the charts for 86 weeks and peaked at number 74 on the Billboard 200.
So happy 40th anniversary to Aerosmith’s Get Your Wings! Name your favorite song from the record in the comments!
