Aerosmith's Joe Perry is headed to the silver screen. The guitarist has been cast in "Cottonwood," a murder mystery set in Depression-era West Texas about "two families...thrown together by tragedy and the binds of racial injustice. The Joseph T. Spence-directed film also stars Anthony Michael Hall, Louis Gossett, Jr. and Alison Eastwood and is currently in pre-production.
In a statement Perry, who will play the character of Joe Walker, said that he's "extremely proud and excited to be part of this very distinguished, heartfelt film and to work with the outstanding cast and production team."
The "Cottonwood" project has been partly funded through an Indiegogo campaign that south $750,000 from donors. Completion and opening dates have not yet been determined.
Aerosmith begins a European tour on May 17 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
