Star-Studded Gregg Allman Tribute Concert

The announced departure of two Allman Brothers Band members did not at all diminish the celebratory feel of All My Friends: Celebrating the Songs & Voice of Gregg Allman, a tribute concert held Friday (January 10) at Atlanta's Fox Theatre.

In the wake of guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks revealing that they'll be leaving the band at the end of the year, the Allmans still closed the night with renditions of "Dreams" and "Whipping Post" before leading all the musicians in a rendition of the spiritual "Will the Circle Be Unbroken."

Backstage before the show, Haynes told Rolling Stone that his and Trucks' announcement was "not a surprise to those in our network" as the two "had been talking about it for a long time."

Gregg Allman, meanwhile, told the Associated Press that he was humbled by the show, which also included performances by Jackson Browne, Dr. John, Sam Moore, Taj Mahal, John Hiatt, Vince Gil, Zac Brown and more: "I try not to think about it just directly. It's kind of like we all came to the gig together. It's pretty overwhelming, but I've got the music to hang onto, to keep me on the ground. Otherwise they'd have to take me out of here on a string, like a balloon."

The concert was filmed for a subsequent DVD and TV broadcast.
