Billy Joel fans may get some news they've been waiting for early next week.
The Piano Man will make "a major announcement for 2014" on Tuesday (December 3) at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Most are expecting Joel to reveal a full tour itinerary for the New Year; he's so far announced eight shows starting December 31, including four at Madison Square Garden, where he played a record-setting 12-show run in 2006.
Joel's announcement will be broadcast by Fuse TV and streamed online at www.billyjoel.com and www.msg.com.
Some, of course, are hoping Joel might announce he has some new music coming, too, but he hasn't released a new song he's composed since 1993's "River of Dreams" album and is instead focusing on instrumental and classical music.
But Joel tells us he won't rule out a return to pop songwriting at some point:
“If I have the motivation to write a song I'm not gonna stop myself from doing it. Look, I still love rock 'n' roll. I still love pop music. I haven't divorced myself from the material I wrote before. That's why I'm out here on the road playing this stuff. I still believe in it.”
Joel will receive a Kennedy Center Honor on December 6, alongside Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, actress Shirley MacLaine and opera singer Martina Arroyo. Highlights from the ceremony will be broadcast December 29 on CBS.
