This Lady is Celebrating her 47th birthday today. Janet Jackson when she was just 20 years old she became the youngest artist since Stevie Wonder to have a number one hit on the billboard hot 100’s. It’s was the summer of 1986 and this was her first number one hit.

We’re going to go to London. It’s summer of 1964. We’re at the EMI studios and the Beatles are there. This is early on in their career and they have just released their first movie “A Hard Days Night” in black and white because they didn’t have the money to do it in color. They have always been kind of a pop band and George Martin the producer, wanted something with depth and maturity to end the soundtrack album. So John Lennon wrote this song.

In 1967 little Stevie Wonder released this song which features and electric sitar in it. I don’t ever think that there has ever been a song that used an electric sitar before this. He plays a great harmonica solo in this song, there are strings he puts into this song. Today is his birthday and he is 63. So we are going to play one of his famous hit songs.

This is a good story actually. Bill Joel turns 64 today. When he was a young guy he moved to LA because you got to go to LA to make a break and he misses his home. Well Billy got home sick and when he got back to New York he wrote this song while he was on a Greyhound Bus crossing the Hudson river from his cross country trip back home from LA. This song was never a hit but became a huge hit after 9/11.

Today we are celebrating the birthday of one of America’s great singers. His name is Phillip Bailey. That may not jump right out at you but he sang the lead on a lot of Earth, Wind & Fire songs. He had a hit solo album and he went out on his own back in 1984. We are going to play a song from that album where he teamed up with Phil Collins and was in the charts week after week and went all the way to number two.

This is the 253rd greatest songs are all time according to Rolling Stone Magazine. So the group is Mott The Hoople and their bass player whose name was Peter Watts was having a beer with David Bowie. He was telling David that the band was breaking up because they hadn’t had any commercial success and David said not to do it and that he would write a song for them. So David Bowie wrote this song for Mott The Hoople back in 1972. This song was a huge hit and put them on the charts.

Today is May 6th and it is the birthday of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter. He was a middle weight fighter back in the early 60's. There was a murder that took place in New Jersey and one fo the witnesses picket this guy our of a line up and they said Rubin was the guy who did it. Alot of people said that this was wrong including Bob Dylan. So he got on board and wrote this protest song. This is for Rubin.
